The underlying background of organizing this International Conference is a concern for the nation’s problems which are complex and impact on the never-ending and insolvable social problems. Recently, the people’s voice is no longer heard and its recognition is running low. Humans lost their identity and they are no longer able to distinguish what is right and what is not morally correct. The people’s participation in national life is getting low and limited. Therefore, this nation needs channels to discover its identity.
What can literature do on this? It can facilitate the process of self discovery and to bring back the identity of the nation’s narrative. This narrative identity (Haryatmoko, 2010: 121) are all characteristics that allow to re-identify a nation loyal to its ideals. Narrative identity is constructed from stories which in turn will establish the identity of history. Though always changing, it will always be trusted and counted.
Due to this, we welcome papers addressing issues The Role of Literature in Enhancing Humanity and National Identity. The sub themes of this conference are:
1. Literature as a narrative identity
2. Literature and the problem of nation and society
3. Literature and sustainable development
4. Literature and the environmental problem
5. The role of literature in moral and character education
6. The role of literature in Enhancing self-determination
7. Promoting children’s literature to improve reading habit
8. Merging literary studies and economic studies
9. Literature, culture, and sub-culture
10. Literature in facing the risk society
Note: Abstract and Papers may be written in Indonesian or foreign languages in accordance with the state of origin. The abstract submission will open in 1 st July 2012 and end on 1st September 2012.
